Rememberance

This was the piece I created for my study in scrollwork. In addition to demonstrating every basic shape of scrollwork on the front, I created an open back with more scrollwork framing a filigree dragonfly. At its heart is a hand cut Llanoite cabochon. This dark color is a much higher quality than is usually commercially available, each of those bluish specks is resplendent points of iridescence.

Llanoite is a rare stone found only around Llano, TX. Because of the rarity true Llanoite is not usually commercially available, and must be hand cut. It should not be confused with “Que Sera Stone” which comes out of Brazil or Africa depending on who you take to. Que Sera does have some bluish crystals in the matrix which superficially resemble the iridescence of Llanoite but the stones are visibly different and would never be confused by anyone familiar with true Llanoite.

Of all the peices I have ever made, this one is perhaps the most bittersweet.

Creation Notes: Fabrication, Scrollwork, Pierce work, Overlay, Lapidary
  Materials: Sterling Silver, Llanoite
